2020 Resolutions

I like to make resolutions and goals for myself. And I like putting them out there on the internet so people can share their experiences, give tips, and it keeps my accountable. It also helps me look back on my previous goals and see how I did with them and how to add onto them in the future.

It’s funny, in looking through last year’s resolutions, I realized that they really aren’t that much different than this year’s.

Go Somewhere New

Like I said last year, this is one of my goals every year. I don’t even have to go that far to go somewhere new. Somewhere in Ontario that I’ve never been before is sufficient for this goal (but I like to go as many places as I can!) In 2019, I visited Mexico and Iceland. I’m excited to see what destinations 2020 has in store.

Read At Least 2 Books Each Month

This kind of evolved into ‘read 26 books in a year’, which I did accomplish. There were some months where I didn’t read 2, due to being busy or not super interested or whatever. But there were a few months where I made up for that slack. I started going to the library regularly, and using the Libby app, where I can borrow e-books from my library.

This is absolutely a goal I want to keep up in 2020. I feel like 26 books is a feasible goal. Send me your book recommendations!

Do More Yoga

I definitely did more yoga this year than in previous years, but I wish I had been more consistent with it. Periods of busy work time and a sudden (very minor!) knee surgery derailed me at some points throughout the year. I aim to do a Yoga With Adrienne video at least 3 times a week. I know it makes me feel better.

Start a YouTube Channel

I didn’t do this. Not even a little bit. This is going to happen in 2020. I have a much clearer idea of what I want it to be now.

Cook more

I did do this, just not as much as I would have liked. We had a tendency to rely on takeout rather than going to look in the freezer. It’s not a great habit.

Adding onto this – I have a bunch of really great cookbooks now. I mostly use them to look at beautiful pictures of food instead of using them for their purpose. That’s going to change. By the end of 2020, I want to have made AT LEAST 1 recipe out of each of my cookbooks.

I also want to be more conscious of reducing food waste. I want to eat the leftovers that are in the fridge, use the groceries I have bought instead of letting them rot in the vegetable drawer. It’s almost always vegetables!! I want to find creative ways to use up scraps, bread ends, and anything else I would normally get rid of. I also would like to eat more vegetables and not be as reliant on meat to complete a meal.

Also, I am committing to using my Instant Pot more in 2020. I’ve used it twice. Both for mashed potatoes. I’m just kind of afraid of it?

Buy Less Makeup/Everything

I did an okay job at this in 2019, but I’d like to do even better next year. I’m going to try and do a no buy on all makeup except replacements. I don’t need more lipsticks or eyeshadow palettes.

I need to be better at investing money in a couple really nice, sustainably-made clothing items instead of cheap items I may only wear for a season.

Be Easier on Myself

This is a tough one eh? I try my best on this one but it isn’t always easy. I’m never going to reach perfection on this. In 2020 I’d also like to be able to just let things go instead of letting them bother me and keep thinking about it. I’d also like to be less afraid of trying things because I am afraid of being bad at them.

Take Up Painting

I think I’d really benefit from another creative outlet. I got a nice set of art materials for Christmas, and I want to make good use of them.

Take the Wedding Planning Process in Stride

This is a very 2020-specific goal. My wedding is coming up in 2020. I want to try and not be stressed out about it. If things go wrong, not to be upset. To budget well so I am not worried about spending money on it. To realize this is a once-in-a-lifetime thing, so it is okay to spend money on it. To ask for help when I need it. I’m bad at asking for help because I don’t want to be a burden on people. I know I’m surrounded by people who love me and would help me with anything.

Find Another Creative Outlet

I think it would do me well to have another creative outlet. I got a paint set for Christmas and I went out and bought a sketchbook and watercolour book. I am going to see what I can do with that.

Clean out the Closets

It seems like every cupboard and closet in my house is a disaster and I am sick of it. I hate the clutter. It makes me upset. The closets will be cleaned and fingers crossed stay clean.

I think that’s it for my 2020 resolutions. Sorry they’re not that different from last year. In fact, they are basically the same!! I guess I just know what I want? Maybe?
