September Reads

Another month, another failed attempt at reading more than one book. I am slacking. Hopefully I can use the back half of the year to catch up on my reading. Does anyone have any recommendations for me?

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

4.5/5 Stars

Monique Grant, a magazine reporter trying to find her footing in her dream job, receives a request out of the blue to interview Old Hollywood star, Evelyn Hugo. When Monique arrives to Evelyn’s apartment, she finds out the Evelyn wants her to write her biography. Unsure why, Monique goes along with it. In hearing the glitz, glamour, and gore of Evelyn’s Hollywood life, she gets her answer.

Although the book opens with Monique, and it parts is narrated by her, the story is mostly told from Evelyn’s perspective. It’s broken down in sections with each of her seven husbands, telling the stories from each of those periods.

I really enjoyed this book. I was excited to get to it after finishing ‘Daisy Jones & The Six. It had some twists that I really wasn’t expecting. It was emotional, and Evelyn was a very flawed character which made it interesting for me.

I also loved the different style in storytelling, which I think Taylor Jenkins Reid really excels with. I can’t wait to add more of her books to my ‘To Read’ list.

Check out everything else I’ve been reading here.
