Taskmaster The 9th season of my favourite show has come to an end. The cast this season was perfection. They had incredible chemistry together, which made the studio segments really fun to watch. This charm had been sort of missing the last few seasons, so […]

What I’ve been watching this week – October 31

I was away this past week, so I expected to not even write a post because I didn’t think I’d be watching much television. I don’t know why I thought that, I love watching tv! Our AirBNB had an excellent selection of channels, featuring many […]

Drag Race UK

RuPaul’s Drag Race has finally made it across the pond. The first two episodes have been a lot of fun. I am biased because I feel like a British (or Northern Irish!) accent makes everything better.

I think the cast has been great. I love that they went with 10 queens and we can really focus on them. There seems to be a clear divide in social media queens and performing queens which seems to be more prominent than on American seasons. This is pretty evident in the Lip Sync For Your Life performances. They have been, uh, rough.

I’m really excited to see where the rest of this season goes.

Schitt’s Creek

I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to watch this show. It is unbelievable.

I just finished the third season, and I felt that this season is where the characters really began to learn and grow from the mistakes they’ve made in the past. They’ve been able to become better people and closer as a family. All without losing that ‘Rose’ charm that we love.

The writing in this show is truly outstanding. There are so many great quotes in every single episode. I laugh out loud every time I watch this show. But it doesn’t sacrifice real, genuine moments just for laughs. It might be a perfect show???

Top Chef Charleston

In trying to find something to have on during the day while working, I have turned to Top Chef Charleston. It was the first season I watched while it was on. It has a great group of returnees, and a pretty decent cast of newbies with a few standouts (hi Jim!!!!).

I always love the idea of a Fan vs Favourites season of any show, but the veterans always have a huge upper hand in the competition. At this point I’d rather just see an all newbies or all returnees season.

Taskmaster Series 9 The new season of Taskmaster has just begun! I know I keep saying this, but Taskmaster is truly the best and funniest show I’ve ever seen. Sure, I have the tendency to be hyperbolic, but I mean it! This new season is […]

Taskmaster

I am so glad that my favourite show is back. In the 9th season of Taskmaster, 5 comedians/presenters/general brits on tv come together to complete tasks and then watch each other complete the tasks. Sounds not great in concept, but holy F is it funny. I genuinely laugh out loud at many points throughout the episode. The first episode of the new season was great. Of course it was. I don’t know the cast super well, but I am excited to see where it goes.

The Challenge

I’ve been really enjoying The Challenge this season, for the most part at least. I am super over Paulie and Cara’s storyline. The Brits have been great, and I’ve completely changed my mind about Big Brother contestants being on the show. They have been a lot of fun over the last few seasons. I chat more about this latest episode on the MTV Reality RHAP Up.

Top Chef Canada

Boy has this season been a drag. I just can’t get into the Canadian version of one of my favourite shows, which I hate to say. I’m hoping it’s just this season. Nearly all of the women went home, pretty well right off the bat. And I’m pretty sure the season started with less women than men, but I’m not fact-checking myself on that one. The challenges have been fine, and the guest judges have been great, but we spend almost no time with the guest judges. The regular judging panel seem to take this all too seriously. I’m going to finish out the season, but it’s not appointment viewing.

Drag Race Season 11

Yet another disappointment on the tv front. Season 11 has just not been incredibly compelling for me. The cast is good, but it’s like the editors haven’t done a great job at conveying the story. Some of the eliminations seem completely out of whack, and I don’t totally find myself rooting for anyone in particular

The Bachelorette

Okay, so this new season hasn’t started yet, but it’s about to! You can catch our draft podcast on the newest cast here.

2018 Favourites

2018 Favourites

2018 has been an interesting year to say the least, but here are a few of my favourite things that I’ve discovered this year.

Boxycharm – I’ve loved subscription boxes since they’ve been around. I love getting mail, and I love trying out makeup so they’re really the perfect combo. I’ve taken some time away from subscription boxes because of the Canadian dollar not being super strong, so they were getting expensive and I wasn’t super satisfied with the products I was receiving. I had been wanting to try out Boxycharm for a while because you received 5 full-sized products. It is more expensive than your usual beauty boxes, at $21 USD a month. I received the box for 4 months, and I was very satisfied with these boxes. I’ve found a couple of new holy grails. There were a few misses in the boxes, but overall I was very happy with it. I only stopped because I needed to take a break from receiving makeup and paying for it. If there are any boxes in the future that are really appealing to me I will definitely sign up again. Check out what I got in my boxes here, and sign up for Boxycharm here.

Yoga With Adriene – Every year one of my resolutions isn’t to do more yoga. I used to go to classes but they weren’t my favourite and it was hard to fit into my schedule. While searching for some yoga videos on YouTube early last year, I came across Adriene. I love her videos because she makes you feel very comfortable with what you’re doing whether you’re a beginner, an expert, or somewhere in between. There are endless options for the type of flow you feel like doing that day, how much time you have, the time of day it is, the part of your body you want to target, and anything else you can think of. I fell off the wagon in the summer, but I’ve been able to get back on in the late fall, and I hope to continue!

Gritty – right before the new NHL season started, the Philadelphia Flyers introduced – nay – UNLEASHED their new mascot onto us. Since then Gritty has taken the world by storm with his dance moves and interviews. Nothing has brought us together in 2018 quite like loving Gritty.

Sports? With Katie Nolan – After her last podcast and show, Garbage Time, ended I felt a hole in my heart. I’m so glad Katie came back to the radio waves with her new podcast. It’s still the perfect mixture of feminist rants, pop culture, and of course sports. I think I actually like it better than Garbage Time. Her co-host/bff Ashley brings a lot to the show and I look forward to listening to the podcast each week.

Matcha – I never even used to enjoy drinking hot beverages and now I’m over here loving MATCHA????? I really didn’t think I was even going to like matcha, but I figured I should try it. I really love its creamy texture, but I do feel like I need to add juuuust a little sugar.

First Aid Beauty – I had tried one or two products from First Aid Beauty last year, but it wasn’t until this year I became a full convert. They offer quite a few sets, so it’s a good way to try out a bunch of products at once. Their skincare line is super gentle. I’ve had problematic skin this year and have been dealing with issues, like dryness, that I’ve never had before. The face cleanser has become a staple in my skincare routine, I’ve fallen head-over-heels for the coconut smoothie primer, and the red clay cleanser is a life-saver when I have breakouts.

Taskmaster – A few years ago a friend turned me on to British panel shows. This year Lauren introduced me to what was not only my favourite show of 2018 but is now my favourite show EVER – Taskmaster. The premise is a fun one – the Taskmaster’s assistant gets 5 comedians all to do some tasks, and they all get together to watch what each of them has done, then the Taskmaster judges the tasks and awards points. It’s the cleverest show I have ever seen, and it is incredibly funny. 15/10 would recommend.

Dennis the Prescott – A boss of mine suggested Dennis’ Instagram account to me and I immediately fell in love with the combination of delicious-looking food and an interesting photographic composition theme. I even bought my boyfriend his cookbook, Eat Delicious, for Christmas (even though it’s really for me).

The Royal Wedding – I cannot help it, I’ve always loved the pomp and circumstance of the Royal Family. I had been very excited about the Royal Wedding of Harry and Meghan since they announced their engagement late last year. My mom and I woke up very early to watch it live. It is just a very fun memory we have together, and it’s always cool to feel like everyone in the world is doing something at once.

Reina del Caribe V1 Palette by Alamar Cosmetics – This was my favourite eyeshadow palette of 2018. It was the reason I got my first Boxycharm. I am so drawn to the bright, bold colours in this palette. The formula of the shadows is pigmented but not hard to work with, and the shimmers are unlike anything I’ve tried. This year had many ‘neutral with one pop of colour’ palettes release, and this one really felt like a breath of fresh air. Even though it’s bold, it’s still very wearable.

I’ll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara – This was one of the most talked about books of 2018, with good reason. The author, Michelle McNamara, died suddenly in her sleep while halfway done this book. It was finished by her widow, Patton Oswalt, and crime journalists Paul Haynes and Billy Jensen. The book follows Michelle’s obsessive search for the Golden State Killer. The book is haunting and unsettling, but incredibly brilliant and gripping. In a twist of fate, soon after the book was released, the Golden State Killer was caught. This is a must-read for true crime lovers, but I’m sure they’ve all read this already.

I hope you enjoyed my favourites from this year, what are yours?
