I tried out Chef’s Plate for a week

A friend of mine had a code for Chef’s Plate, a meal subscription service here in Canada. I was able to get 3 free meals for 2 (thanks Natalie!!)

It felt like the perfect time to try something like this out. We’re trying to limit going out in public as much as possible, and it was nice to have fresh, interesting meals delivered right to our door.

We tried out a week of Hello Fresh some time last year and liked it, but we never got it again. We wanted to try out something else!

Recipe 1: Steak with Chimichurri Sauce with Roasted Red Potatoes

This was the recipe we were most excited about so obviously we made it first. It was a pretty easy recipe to follow. It says it takes 35 minutes to make and I would say it took around that long.

This was a really tasty dinner and it ended up being our favourite meal of the week.

Recipe 2: Mexi Beef Enchiladas with Guacamole and Lime Sour Cream

We were very much looking forward to these. We both love Mexican food. I had never made enchiladas before, but this recipe was pretty easy. I loved the addition of guacamole and the sour cream. We did add some extra cheddar cheese to the top of the enchiladas.

This was a 15-minute recipe, and I think it took us about 25 minutes to make.

Recipe 3: Japanese Umami Burgers with Sweet Potatoes and Spicy Mayo

Our third and final recipe of the week were these burgers. I liked them a lot. It was a nice twist on something that we already love. The patties were easy to assemble, and they were very tasty. I’ve got to say, my favourite part was the brioche bun. I love a brioche.

The recipe says it will take 30 minutes, and it probably took us about 35. We didn’t find the mayo particularly spicy, and we added some regular potato fries to the sweet potato fries to make the meal a little more substantial.

The carrot for the slaw they sent us was massive, and we ended up making some carrot cake muffins with the rest of it.

What did we think?

We had a great time with these recipes and meals. We made them together. In times where were obviously spending a lot of time at home together, it was nice to do something like this. We love going out to restaurants, and now we aren’t doing that. It was fun to make some restaurant quality meals at home.

I believe it’s about $60 a week for 3 meals for 2, which is a little pricey for us on a regular basis. I think we would try out Chef’s Plate again as a nice treat.
