I didn’t have to many empties pile up over the last few months. heck, one of these wasn’t even empty, it was just v v v expired. Bath & Body Works Foaming Hand Soap in Winter Candy Apple and Twisted Peppermint – The foaming hand […]

Because I spend way too much time watching beauty videos on YouTube, I’ve been interested in trying something from Dose of Colours for a while. Because I live in Canada, it’s not the easiest brand to get here. Shipping is expensive, and when you add […]
Mascara is the underrated hero of make up. It’s never the most exciting product, but if you’re not wearing it, someone will inevitably tell you that you look kind of tired. I love trying out new mascaras. Even more so, I love getting mascaras sent to me by Influenster to try out for free.
Here’s my thing with mascara – I don’t like high end mascaras. Not that I don’t ACTUALLY like them, but like, you kind find perfectly good, if not great, mascaras at the drugstore for a fraction of the price.
What I look for in a mascara:
- Lengthening – I want long, lucious bambi lashes, okay?
- Non-clumpy – I don’t love the spidery lash look on me
- Easy to get off at the end of the day – I like when my mascara stays on through the day, but it comes off easyish at night because I am lazy and usually give up and end up with a raccoon-eyes-look reminiscent of my grade 8 graduation make up
- No-Transfer – again, trying to not rock the raccoon eyes thing, because I cannot pull it off like they can
- Not a necessity, but I do prefer a rubber bristle wand
Okay, anyway, I got the new Revlon Volumazing Mascara in the mail, complimentary for review from Influenster and Revlon. This mascara promises:
- No smudging or flaking for up to 24 hours
- Ultra-creamy, amplifying formula infused with nourishing Olive Oil for a soft, fanned out look
- Turn-it-up brush with a curved centre and wavy filaments to hug each last while holding the optimal amount of each product
First things first – for the most part, Influenster sends out full-sized products. This is a delxue sample at best. Which is FINE, a free mascara is a free mascara, but something to note.
I’ve been wearing it for a few days straight and my verdict – it is a perfectly fine mascara. It’s nothing mind-blowing. I don’t find my lashes look particularly lengthened, thickened, or nourished. It does come of easily at the end of the day which I appreciate. It’s just like, a decent, not super special mascara. From Revlon alone I prefer the Mega Multiplier mascara. This is a mascara I will definitely keep using. It’s nice for travel. It’s also good for the days where I want to look like I’m not wearing make up, but I definitely AM wearing make up, you know. Anyway, I wouldn’t rebuy this once it ran out and I don’t think I would recommend this to you, there are 5000 other perfectly decent and better mascaras at the drug store for you to try.

Hello and welcome back to another Boxycharm review! Let’s get right into this.
Boxycharm has rocketed to the top of my list as my favourite beauty subscription box, for the main reason of the value for what you pay being so astronomical, but the value of the box is really only worth it if the box is valuable to YOU as a consumer. I guess I could say that the August box, is probably not the most valuable to me.
In the August box I received:
Laura Lee Los Angeles Party Animal Pressed Pigment Palette – $19 USD – Laura Lee was embroiled in some not so casual drama juuuust in time for this predetermined-far-in-the-past box to be released. So it’s tough to use this palette. It also features some pretty out there colours, which is fine by me, but I’m not going to use this for every day looks. This is not everyone’s cup of tea, I get that.
House of Lashes Falsies in Bambie* – $9 USD – I was reeeeeeally hoping I wasn’t going to get the lashes variance in my box, but alas, here we are. I never use lashes. I got a pair of lashes in my June Boxycharm that I am probably never going to use. And these are pretty out there in the realm of lashes. Even if I was going for super glam I would never go for these.
Bang Beauty Gel Eyeliner in Chocolate – $22 USD – With the previous two product, they may not be everyone’s taste, but they’re decent products. This “eyeliner” is just egregiously bad. It straight up does not work as an eyeliner. It doesn’t have enough pigment. It doesn’t work as an eye shadow base because it makes every shadow muddy and hard to blend. It is incredibly lacklustre as an eyebrow gel. It is truly unfathomable that this was included in the box this month AND that the market value is $22. You could find better eyeliners at the dollar store.
Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks – $25 USD – I have a hard time noticing any tangible difference that eye masks might provide, but it doesn’t mean I don’t love them! I was pretty excited about these coming in the box this month. I was even more excited to see that they included 3 pairs of them. I feel like most subscription services only include one pair. These are great because they stay on my face, most that I’ve tried just slide off so I have to lay very still. V v v into these.
Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Latte Matte* – $25 CAD – I was really looking forward to getting a Smashbox lippie in this month’s box. When I saw the colour I received, I was kind of eh about it. I liked the colour on me, but I was hoping for something a little more interesting than a peachy nude. That was until I saw some of the colours other people were getting in their boxes. Green metallic? No thanks. Then I was very thankful for the one I got.
NCLA So Rich Cuticle Oil – $18 USD – My nails suck. I don’t treat them very well. I was super happy to get a cuticle oil. I’ve been trying to use it with some regularity, and I’ve noticed an improvement in my nails. I’m getting waaay less hangnails.
The overall market value of this box was $113 USD. The overall Haley Strong value was much less than that. Still, even with this month’s box being a bit of a disappointment, I’m still quite happy to be subscribed to Boxycharm. If you want to subscribe, use my referral link here.
