Survivor We’re a couple weeks into the new Survivor season, and I’ve been enjoying it so far. I didn’t have high hopes about the Island of the Idols twist. And I’m still not totally on board with it. The cast so far has been really […]
The Bachelorette Bienvenue and aloha to yet another season of The Bachelorette. We welcome in Hannah B as our 15th Bachelorette. After last week’s special, I found myself really looking forward to this new season. I thought Hannah’s first night as the lead was pretty […]
What an incredibly weird season of Survivor.
Sure, 39 seasons and 19 years in they have to do some things to keep the show fresh and exciting. And Edge of Extinction was textbook ‘throwing something against the wall to see if it sticks’. I don’t really think anything stuck.
I, like everyone else, was pretty skeptical of a twist which promised that those who were voted out aren’t really out of the game. We saw a similar twist like this in Pearl Islands. It was fine. But some didn’t think that those who were voted out should have another chance. Along the EOE family line, we saw a couple seasons of Redemption Island. Again, no one seemed to be a big fan.
I tend to be a bit higher on seasons than other people. I can’t say the same about this one. This season just never connected with me for whatever reason. It’s possibly because of the focus on 4 unnecessary returnees (as much as I love Aubry, Kelley, and David this just wasn’t the spot for them), or just knowing that somehow the twist would royally F everything up.
Boy did it ever.
Spoiler alert – although if you haven’t seen the finale yet and are spoiler adverse, I’m not totally sure why you clicked on this or made it this far, but to each their own – a guy who got voted out pretty early on, made it back after nearly a month out of the game and won. Which, sure, was kind of the point of the season and it was within the function of how this game was being played, but it is hard for a lot to swallow. It’s hard for me to swallow! One of my favourite aspects about Survivor is the social game. We had Victoria and Gavin who both played exemplary social games and didn’t have to be LITERALLY HANDED IDOLS to make it near/to the end.
There was a lot of disappointment at the message written (or should I say w-rick-en) on the wall about an ‘inevitable’ Devens win, but I would have found that much more satisfying. Love him or hate him at least we knew who he was. Chris was barely visible on Edge of Extinction. Maybe if there wasn’t any returnees we would have been able to see him even a little bit more.
Chris had some interesting, flashy moves in a very short period of time, which was obviously necessary for him to win and he knew that. He absolutely made the most of his time within the game, but his time there was so short that it would be hard for me to vote for him. Especially since I thought that Gavin and Julie were worthy winners. His best move was obviously convincing Lauren to play the idol for him. His idea to go up against Devens in the fire-off was extremely risky, but it worked out for him and gave him another resume item. Wow, am I talking myself into the Chris win as we speak?
I mean, no. Not really. I feel a bit better about it. He did what he had to do to win, so kudos. But this season felt so off because of his win. I’m in the camp of whoever won deserved to win, and I guess that’s still the case here, it just doesn’t feel that satisfying.
The Amazing Race The Amazing Race came back a couple weeks ago after a loooong hiatus. For their 31st season they decided to have a battle of the CBS reality shows. Favourite teams from previous seasons of The Amazing Race plus new teams made up […]
With me getting some casual knee surgery last week, I had quite a bit of time to watch tv. What makes that different than any other week you ask? Well, pretty much nothing, except my food network marathons were much longer than usual. Survivor This […]
The Office Christmas episodes – Since we’ve seen an influx of instagram posts about what episode number in the season the holiday episodes of all your favourite shows are, it has lead to me watching the Christmas episodes of The Office because it was easy for my boyfriend to find them. Honestly I haven’t watched The Office in eons, despite it being one of my favourite shows growing up. It was fun to go back and watch these, but I’m not sure if I’m going to commit to a complete rewatch for a while.
Always Late with Katie Nolan – I love Katie Nolan. She is truly the best. She has a new show on ESPN+ that I cannot watch because I do not have ESPN+. Last week a holiday edition of Always Late aired on ABC, which I do get. It was a great episode because it showed a lot of highlights from her show throughout the year. Also it was hilarious and great. My boyfriend could hear me giggling and asked me what I was watching and it was that.
Survivor Finale – Another season of Survivor has come and gone. I was super low on the idea of this season coming into it, but it turned out to be a really fun season. I wasn’t super satisfied with the winner of the season, but I kind of expected it based on the ~edit~. There was a lot of fun characters that I’m looking forward to coming back probably way too soon and way too often.
Great American Baking Show Holiday Edition – Please sign me up to watch any and all iterations of the Baking Show franchise. The GABSHE was certainly no exception. It ran for 3 weeks, with two episodes each week. It was certainly a fun watch, but I would have loved a whole season of this.
Hello, and welcome back to the things I have been watching! This is what I have been watching this week. Survivor – I don’t think I am not alone in that I went into this season with very low expectations. Everyone seems pretty down on it […]
I am, unsurprisingly, a tv junkie. If you are reading this, you probably are too. I figured it might be a fun series to tell you what I’ve been watching each week. Whaddya think? It doesn’t matter, here it is anyway.
Survivor – It was premiere week last week for a lot of shows, one of those being Survivor. It was a really fun premiere. I think 90 minutes is the sweet spot for the premiere. One hour isn’t enough time to get to meet everyone, and two hours is a little too long and, somehow, also feels a little rushed. I went into the season being not particularly excited about it, but the premiere helped to squash those fears.
The Good Place – The Good Place also came back last week. This show is the only scripted show in YEARS that is appointment viewing for me. I am so excited to watch every new episode, and I am often blown away by the clever twists and turns this show takes you through while still being absolutely laugh-out-loud worthy.
Great British Bake off – If I’m ever having a down day, I put GBBO on. This new season is just as wonderful and charming as every one that has come before it. I feel like Noel and Sandi have found their groove and I realllllly love this new cast. We’re just getting to the quarter finals and things are heating up. Pun absolutely intended.
Great Canadian Baking Show – GCBS has as much charm and whimsy as the original, with just more Canadian accents. Dan Levy is an amazing host for this show. If you don’t live in Canada, try and find a way to watch this.
These are a few of the things I’ve been watching this week – what has been on your dvr?
